Upon arrival in Haines, meet your knowledgeable local guide and begin a scenic drive to Chilkoot Lake State Park.

This stunning park features a turquoise lake framed by snow-capped mountains, a salmon-filled river flowing into the sea, and significant Tlingit cultural sites. Beginning in late July, migrating salmon return to the river to spawn, attracting harbor seals and, as the salmon run intensifies, black bears. From early August through late September, guests have an excellent opportunity to spot bears along the riverbanks.

As you travel through the park, your guide will stop at the best scenic viewpoints and wildlife viewing areas. Equipped with a high-powered spotting scope, your guide will help you observe wildlife from a safe distance while sharing fascinating insights into the area's ecosystem, animal behavior, and natural history. Be sure to bring your camera, as this experience offers outstanding photo opportunities.
