Private Lake Myvatn, Dettifoss Waterfall & Godafoss Waterfall private tour with Lunch stop

Tour starts with a departure from Akureyri. We drive east from Akureyri, cross Eyjafjordur fjord and enjoy the view of the town, the ocean and the mountains surrounding the fjord.

After only a half-hour drive, we arrive at the picturesque Godafoss Waterfall. Godafoss plays an important role in Icelandic history, particularly in connection with the introduction of Christianity. From there we go on an amazing journey through areas of extreme contrasts, bird life, flora, lava fields, geothermal activity, geology, and saga.

Our first stop at the Lake Myvatn area is the picturesque Skutustadagigar Psuedo Craters, formed from explosions when the flowing hot lava met with the ice-cold water from the lake. We enjoy the great panoramic view of the area.

Afterward, we arrive at Dimmuborgir Lava Fields, full of lava pillars and formations that are rich in mythical sagas and ghoulish trails. Next, we stop for a local lunch at the Farmhouse restaurant Vogafjos Retreat. From there we drive to the highlands to witness the most powerful waterfall of Europe, Dettifoss Waterfall. The waterfall is located in Jokulsargljufur canyon, an impressive canyon carved out by Iceland's largest glacier river. The final stop by Lake Myvatn is at Namafjall and the geothermal area of Hverir Mud Pools, with steaming fumaroles, boiling mud pools, and sulfur pits.
