Journey to Waimea Canyon Tour in Kauai (Spouting Horn, Old Koloa Town)

Journey to Waimea Canyon

Labeled "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific" by Mark Twain, this fascinating Waimea Canyon tour in Kauai offers spectacular views that rival its mainland cousin yet with an island personality. For example, a stop will be made during the excursion to see the Spouting Horn. The Poipu surf channels into a natural lava tube and releases a huge spout of water during large swells. Listen for the hiss and roar; local legend tells of a great lizard that long ago got stuck in the tube.

The actual canyon is bursting with ever-changing color, yellow ginger, and eucalyptus trees. Kauai's own mokihana berries grow up to 3,500-foot elevation. We take you up to 3,400 feet to the canyon overlook and provide a visual history commentary along the way. A short walk from the transportation takes you to the overlook.

Waimea, located on the western end of Kauai, offers a rich history and plenty of adventure. The town's claim to fame: marks the spot where Captain Cook first set foot on Hawaiian soil in 1778.

On the return drive, you will pass through Old Koloa Town. Established in 1834 and situated in the heart of Hawaii's first sugar cane plantation, quaint old buildings have been carefully renovated and restored and are now home to unique shops and restaurants. As you drive by, your guide will share fascinating stories about life in the plantation era.
