DDepart the Port of Tauranga and begin a scenic journey through the beautiful Bay of Plenty toward the geothermal heart of New Zealand. Travel around the sheltered waters of Mount Maunganui Harbour before following the coastline past the area's famous surf beach and pristine waterfront. As the landscape changes, pass through charming rural communities, lush dairy farmland, and the kiwifruit capital of New Zealand. Continue through fertile orchards filled with kiwifruit and avocado trees, as well as vast pine forests that play an important role in the region's economy. Along the way, enjoy views of Lakes Rotoiti and Rotorua, two of the area's sixteen spectacular lakes, before arriving in the vibrant city of Rotorua.

Your first stop is the magnificent Whakarewarewa Redwood Forest, home to more than 5,600 hectares of natural beauty. Towering Californian Coast Redwoods create a peaceful setting unlike anywhere else in New Zealand. Stroll beneath these majestic trees while taking in the fresh forest air and admiring native plant life, including New Zealand's iconic silver fern. There will also be an opportunity to browse locally produced goods. From there, continue to the world famous Whakarewarewa Thermal Village, where geothermal activity and Mori culture exist side by side. Accompanied by a local Māori guide, explore a living village surrounded by steaming vents, bubbling mud pools, mineral rich hot springs, and the spectacular Pohutu Geyser, the largest active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere.

Learn how generations of Maori families have embraced this unique geothermal environment, using naturally heated mineral waters for bathing and geothermal steam for cooking. Meet members of the local community and gain insight into their traditions, daily life, and customs that have been passed down through the generations. Visit the beautifully carved Whare Tupuna, the ancestral meeting house, before enjoying a traditional Mori cultural performance featuring songs, dances, and the world renowned Haka. This authentic performance offers a memorable introduction to the rich heritage of New Zealand's indigenous people. A traditional Hangi style lunch will be served during your visit to the village. Enjoy a freshly prepared Hangi Pie served with a side salad and sweet corn on the cob. Guests may choose from chicken, beef, or vegetable fillings. The ingredients are traditionally cooked in an underground hangi pit before being wrapped in flaky pastry, creating a uniquely New Zealand culinary experience. After lunch, continue through Rotorua to see several of the city's iconic landmarks, including the Government Gardens, the historic Rotorua Bath House and Museum, and Rachel's Spring, where naturally heated water reaches approximately 212 degrees Fahrenheit.

As you begin the return journey to Tauranga, make a scenic stop at the Kaituna River to watch adventurous rafters and kayakers navigate the famous rapids and waterfalls. Depending on the day, you may also see local anglers fishing for trout in the river.

At the conclusion of your tour, relax during the drive back through the Bay of Plenty before arriving at the Port of Tauranga with ample time before your ship's departure, bringing an unforgettable day of natural wonders, Māori culture, and spectacular New Zealand scenery to a close.
