Bari is a port city on the Adriatic Sea, and the capital of southern Italy's Puglia region. Its mazelike old town, Bari Vecchia, is on a headland next to the port. South of Bari Vecchia, the Murat quarter has stately 19th-century architecture and pedestrianized shopping areas. Grand 1930s buildings like the rationalist Palazzo della Provincia line the promenade along the waterfront.
